Ellsworth Construction widened the road 3 feet on each side, lengthening several culverts, widening structures to accommodate the wider roadway and overlay. The project also included pedestrian improvements, bike lanes, trail construction, and new guardrails on Wekiwa road.
The Tulsa County project was requested ahead of the Iron Man competition earlier this year which used Wekiwa Road as a portion of the bicycle leg. It is a scenic and important emergency relief road. According to a Vision Tulsa report, the road was considered to be in “Very Bad Condition,” with average daily traffic between one and two thousand. It was damaged in 2015 from tornados and until the Federal Aid Project was neglected. The 2.12 mile stretch of road is 10.76 Acres and spans from Keystone Dam to 177th W Ave. Being a Tulsa Business for over 35 years, upgrading and rehabilitating the community is an important factor when considering jobs.
